In continuous automotive refinishing, cup volume changes gun balance, fluid head pressure, refill frequency, material temperature exposure and the likelihood of air entering the fluid path near the end of a pass. A full large-capacity cup changes the center of gravity of the gun. That can cause the painter to tilt the air cap or vary distance as fatigue develops. Maintain a perpendicular gun angle, stable wrist position and consistent 150-180 mm working distance where appropriate for the coating system. If the gun feels top-heavy, a smaller cup with planned refill points may produce better real-world consistency than simply maximizing capacity.
For repeatable production, document cup size, normal starting fill level, nozzle size, dynamic pressure, overlap and expected panel coverage for common materials. Inspect the vent and lid seal during daily gun preparation. The best cup is not always the largest one; it is the size that supports continuous coverage without excessive weight, starvation or unplanned interruption. Proper paint cup capacity and continuous spray stability helps maintain a consistent wet edge, uniform atomization and predictable film build across the repair.
